Eradicate artistic poverty


Eradicate artistic poverty in Aalborg by Increasing public funding for visual arts projects, establishing new grant programs, and mandating greater artistic support from local industry.

Set up ongoing, regular meetings between local/regional politicians and artists

Set up ongoing, regular meetings between local/regional politicians and artists to create ongoing conversations around the changing needs of artists in Aalborg.

Establish a localized artistic working grant program

Greatly expand dedicated funding for emerging and professional visual artists by establishing a localized artistic working grant program – similar to Statens Kunstfonds arbejdslegater (for artists with professional practices and completed education).

Increase quantity and amount of artist fees paid

Increase quantity and amount of artist fees paid out by cultural institutions, artist-run spaces, and public commissions in concert with BKF’s professional guidelines.

Encourage independent initiatives and platforms

Encourage independent initiatives and platforms by establishing public funding specifically for artist-led organizations in Aalborg.

Increase access to professional artistic resources and infrastructure

Collaborate with the municipality to increase access to professional artistic resources and infrastructure – access to technology and equipment, more well-fitted workshops, professional mentoring, professional studio spaces, and more artistic networking.

Establish an internationally recognized BFA, MFA, and PhD art education

Establish an internationally recognized BFA, MFA, and PhD art education in the city.

Create greater transparency, communication, and processing time between artists and local funding bodies

Create greater transparency, communication, and processing time between artists and local funding bodies within Aalborg municipality and the Region.

Improve artistic participation in public arts policy

Improve artistic participation in public arts policy by mandating municipal arts funding boards have at least 50% qualified visual artists on their panels.

Protect and promote experimentation, quality, criticality, independent, and non-commercial artistic practice

Protect and Promote experimentation, quality, criticality, independent, and non-commercial artistic practice within the art sector in Aalborg.

Forge ongoing relationships between artists, industry, and academia

Forge ongoing relationships between artists, industry, and academia through the creation of municipality arranged regular meetings between artists and other sectors.

Increase regulation of private sector activity that directly profits from the local visual arts sector

Increase regulation of private sector activity that directly profits from the local visual arts sector – tourism, real estate, et al. – to create new revenue streams for local artists.

Involve artists in the decision-making process of local artistic philanthropy

Involve artists in the decision-making process of local artistic philanthropy to ensure quality, fairness, and shared public interest with private arts funding initiatives.
